Short term accommodation

Short term accommodation (STA) is a support service that provides people with disabilities with a place to stay for a short period of time, usually up to 14 days. STA can be used for a variety of reasons, such as:

  • To provide respite for caregivers

  • To allow people with disabilities to participate in activities or events that they would not be able to do from home

  • To provide a safe and supportive place to stay during a crisis or emergency

  • To provide a transition period for people who are moving from a residential care facility to independent living

Benefits of Short Term Accommodation

There are many benefits to short term accommodation for people with disabilities, including:

  • Increased independence and autonomy

  • Opportunities to socialize and meet new people

  • Access to a variety of activities and programs

  • A safe and supportive environment

  • Respite for caregivers

How to Access Short Term Accommodation

Short term accommodation is funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). To access STA, you must have a NDIS plan that includes funding for this support. You can then contact a registered NDIS provider to arrange STA services.
